Most sufferers of chronic diseases have one thing in common – as far as their well-being is concerned, they can’t overcome the fear of being in pain. After having persevered for so long, they end up becoming used to the constant battle against the pain, suffering, and sorrow that comes with the disease and can’t let go of their patient status. Even after successfully receiving treatments for their diseases, I have met a lot of ex-patients who choose to spend their lives with a persistent fear in their hearts that it will “come back one day” or that they are not entirely “cured.” Treating symptoms and getting rid of a disease can be difficult but getting rid of the psychological effects is something else entirely!
Getting rid of the ‘patient’ tag
It could be argued that leaving behind the lifestyle of a patient is quite similar to getting up and walking out of jail. An inmate who has spent 80% of their life in jail is the same as a person who has spent years and years suffering from a disease – it would be extremely difficult to just get up and walk out. In the world of psychology, this phenomenon is known as “learned helplessness” or the inability to walk away from negative situations because one has been conditioned to believe that they cannot escape. The pharmaceutical and medical industries feed off of this learned helplessness of those who have endured pain for too long and even those who have now been completely cured of their diseases. And the worst part is most people are usually under the impression that walking around with the “patient” tag will help them validate their feelings and associate themselves with others suffering the same. Attempting to let go of this tag is the same as trying to let go of your old childhood blanket – it’s a source of comfort and the attachment can be too deep to let go easily.
Deep healing begins when you let go
Only after you have stopped fighting and fearing the elements that are associated with your health and have finally accepted yourself for who you are, will your much-desired journey of deep healing begin.
It’s all about your mindset.
“I have a big day tomorrow, might as well take some Temazepam for a good night’s sleep” or “I have to take some Diflucan to keep that yeast infection at bay.” Have any of these thoughts ever crossed your mind? If yes, then your inner “control freak” is inspiring every little thing that you do. Responding to every little fear with medication will never help you attain deep healing. This does not mean that supplements should be banned altogether. What needs to be changed is your mindset! Changing the mindset begins with finding the actual voice of your body among the ocean of negative thoughts and fears that are raging inside of yoMostu, listening to that voice, and responding to it with nothing but positivity. You have to accept that you are not in full control of your body. You have to accept the fact that your body deserves to get better. You have to accept the fact that it has had enough. You have to trust your body and pledge to honor it every day!
By letting go of the steering wheel and genuinely trusting what your body has to say, you will allow your mind to relax. With no mental restrictions, you will gradually begin to honor your body the way it should be honored. Trust me when I say that natural care and positive response are the way to go when leaving the patient status behind.
Perfect health does not mean eternal happiness!
An average person spends a large part of their lives worrying about the future and under the impression that perfect health is the key to eternal happiness. I’m here to tell you otherwise – running after perfect health implies that you no longer respect your body and don’t want to live in the moment. By truly living in the moment, you will allow your mind to focus on other, more important things that need your immediate attention, love, and care. That is where you will find eternal happiness. And that is the ultimate cure for sorrow and pain!
